The National Domestic Service Training and Promotion Action for 2019 to 2020 kicked off in Qingdao City, East China's Shandong Province, on October 15, hoping to further improve training levels and encourage high quality development of domestic services or housekeeping services in China.

It is one of the moves to implement the guidance issued by the State Council on promoting the domestic service industry this June.

"By carrying out the training improvement action, we hope to help local departments to improve the domestic service training curriculum and system so as to attract more people to engage in the industry," said Peng Fuwei, Deputy Director of the Social Development Department of the National Development and Reform Commission.

Peng added that the action was expected to urge the launch of domestic services-related majors in at least one undergraduate university and a number of vocational colleges in each province of the country, and to cultivate more than 100 industry-education integration housekeeping enterprises.

It was aimed at providing sufficient housekeeping training services to cities with urban resident populations of more than one million and at ensuring qualified talent support for the industry's high-quality development, Peng noted.

It is planned to provide domestic service training for more than five million people by the end of 2020.

The action will be carried out in three aspects to promote domestic training across the country. First, take various methods of training through collaboration between governments, enterprises, and universities and colleges in different regions so as to ensure full coverage of the action. Second, a multi-party work coordination mechanism will be established so that all parties involved shoulder their responsibilities respectively in the training improvement action. Third, give full play to demonstration projects and model enterprises and promote good practices so as to improve the training quality. Creative policies and practices are also encouraged.

At the launching ceremony, representatives of several vocational and technical colleges and enterprises introduced their experience and practices in domestic service training.

The event was launched by the National Development and Reform Commission, the Ministry of Commerce, the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security, the Ministry of Education, the All-China Federation of Trade Unions, the Central Committee of the Communist Youth League of China and the All-China Women's Federation.
